Hundreds of fans watched Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish pass through Cheshire in Stage three of the tour. The team from Roadcyclingworld.co.uk were in Knutsford to catch the excitement and get a glimpse of the riders.
The riders were first spotted coming through Knutsford town centre, where Canute Place was filled with hundreds of people watching the cyclists. The atmosphere was buzzing with the crowd cheering on the competitors.
The stage was won by Englishman Ian Stannard, from Team Sky, who helped Chris Froome to victory at this year’s Tour de France and was then part of Team GB’s road squad at last month’s Rio Olympics.
Britain’s record Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish is part of the Team Dimension Data alongside Steve Cummings, who is twice a runner-up in the Tour of Britain.
Also amongst the competitors were Sir Bradley Wiggins who is racing alongside fellow Olympic gold medallist Owain Doull and Jonathan Dibben under the Team Wiggins’ banner. We saw them crossing the finish line at Tatton Park to a large crowd.
Within the Tour of Britain there are four leaders’ jerseys, each presented following every stage to the rider leading that competition’s classification, headed of course by the famous yellow jersey, synonymous with the race leader in cycling around the world. Belgium’s Julien Vermote took the yellow jersey at Tatton Park.
